Because mainstream cloud storage providers can read your files and Filevoid cannot. Your files are encrypted in your browser before they are uploaded, so we only ever hold ciphertext. That matters if you keep financial data, business plans or client documents that you want kept away from advertisers and AI scanning tools — short of running your own server, it is the strongest option available.

Filevoid uses zero-knowledge, end-to-end encryption. Your browser encrypts each file with a key derived from the secret you log in with, and only the encrypted result is sent to us. We store a record of the file so it appears in your dashboard, and the encrypted contents go to our cloud provider. The secret never leaves your device, so we cannot decrypt your files.

The architecture is designed so that a breach of our systems does not expose your files: encryption happens on your device and we never hold your key, so an attacker who reaches our storage gets ciphertext. That said, no provider can promise perfection — large, well-funded companies get breached regularly. We stay humble about it and keep improving how we do things.

Your encrypted files are stored on Cloudflare, the largest content delivery network in the world, powering around 20% of internet traffic. Data is distributed across the EU and US for fast downloads — your files may even be served from the city you are currently in!

Our servers are based in Germany, outside the Five Eyes surveillance alliance, with strong privacy laws protecting your data from invasive government requests.

They would see your Account ID and a hash of your Secret. They could not decrypt your files from that hash, because you are the only party that holds the key.

The maximum file size is 100 GB per file. This is subject to increase as our service grows. If you need a temporary increase, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help.

No. Filevoid accounts are anonymous: no email address, phone number or personal details are required to sign up, and you can start uploading immediately. People you share files with do not need an account either — a share link opens in any browser.

Your files cannot be recovered. The secret is the encryption key and it never reaches our servers, so there is no reset link and no support override — that is the direct trade-off for zero-knowledge encryption. Store your secret in a password manager.
